SAMHSA just opened $281 million in new funding. Here’s what applies to you.
On July 6, SAMHSA announced more than $281 million in new grant funding across 15 programs, all aimed at expanding addiction treatment, overdose prevention, mental health services, and recovery support. Several of these programs are built for organizations like yours, and application windows for federal grants tend to be short. If any of the opportunities below fit your organization, the time to start preparing is now.
The programs most relevant to treatment providers
- $68.2 million for Medication-Assisted Treatment. The largest opportunity in this round. These grants expand access to medications for opioid use disorder and support treatment and recovery services for people with OUD. - $13.7 million for integrating primary and behavioral health care. Funding to bring physical and behavioral health care together in clinical practice. - $10.5 million for treatment, recovery, and workforce support. Helps people in treatment and recovery live independently and participate in the workforce. How to prepare a strong application
Federal grants are competitive, and the organizations that win tend to be the ones that can prove their impact and demonstrate they are ready to manage federal requirements. Five things you can do this month.
- Confirm eligibility and deadlines first. Every program has its own funding notice with specific eligibility criteria and due dates. Read it before you invest time in writing.
- Pull your outcomes data together. Reviewers want evidence. Completion rates, retention, readmissions, time to admission, and collections tell your story better than any narrative. If you need help pulling program data out of Sunwave for an application, your account team can help.
- Have your privacy and security documentation ready. Applications involving patient data typically ask how you protect it.
